HOPE ZONE PROGRAM UPDATES
The father of a teenage girl from our Hope Zone Kids program was recently murdered. She (name withheld for privacy) is a long time attendee and special part of our Zona Norte and Hope Zone community. It was extremely moving, not just to watch our staff support her, but to see her teenage peers rally around her in support. A few weeks after her father’s passing she was at our property for a youth hangout time. It was during this get-together she re-gave her life to Jesus. We are comforted in knowing that she is being supported, loved, and not walking alone through a situation no child should ever have to go through.
In early November, the Hope Zone Moms group took part in an art ministry activity (pictured above). The moms were to draw what was going on in their hearts and personal lives. During the week, all of the staff who work with the moms took time to seek the Lord and ask Him for words or scriptures that we knew would align with the pictures they were to draw. After each woman shared their heart, we divided into groups -- in the groups there were miscarriages; husbands being abusive; no money for the household because the husband is buying drugs and neglecting his family; financial crisis; and a new mom who shared they just arrived to the area and her husband had crossed back into the States, leaving her and the boys alone — she feels alone and afraid. Each of these women were crying. As the team heard each story, they looked at the words we collectively received and gave each woman the scripture or word that the Spirit was leading us to give. When God speaks straight to the heart, you can see it in their faces… and that's exactly what we saw. Thankfulness, peace, relief, and strength.
Hope Zone Dads is a new program for 2018. Recently one of the dads opened up to Giezi about how alone he feels. He shared that he is so glad we are here so he can come and share what is going on in his life. He is an Uber driver and many of his clients are prostitutes that trust him to take them from place to place. He sees many dark things and hears lots of disturbing stories. His only true friends are guys he has met through our Hope Zone program. We hope to be light to many more men in the community.
